Our authentic Native American drums come from the reservations and pueblos of
New Mexico and Arizona. We normally try to get drums from Cochiti pueblo in New
Mexico, because these tend to be more of a natural type drum and far less
expensive than the popular Taos drums of Taos Pueblo. The Cochiti drums are made
with cottonwood logs which are native to the area. The heads are done with top
quality elk rawhide. The logs are natural, so each drum is truly unique. The Tarahumara drums are made by the Tarahumara Indians. The Tarahumara are situated in the mountains of the Copper Canyon area of Southern Chihuahua.
The log drums are hewn out pine logs from the forests there. The heads on these
drums is cowhide made by them from their own cattle. These are great sounding
drums.
The flat drums are made from stripped pine for the ring and goat skin usually
for the heads. The sound is unbelievable. Because of the tight stretching and
rawhide lace used, these drums have a beautiful hollow tone.
We seal all the drums, so they require little care. If there is a lot of
moisture in the air, the drum heads will loosen. This is normal. They will
tighten up again when the humidity drops. The painted drums are a wall decoration that will fit in any home. These are well done and you will be delighted with the quality! Our Cow Skulls are selected for the highest quality achievable for a fair price. We endeavor to find the best and cleanest cow skulls available. The painted cow skulls are done by artists that are excellent at producing unique pictorials of the Native American and Southwest cultures. We have ironwork from Chihuahua, western wall hangings, western decor, Southwest crafts and many more. Happy shopping!!
